The Flaughless 5K was started in 2012 in memory of Dan Flaugh, a lifelong Vinton resident and former US Army soldier who served in Baghdad, Iraq. After returning, Dan struggled with PTSD and took his own life in December 2011 at the age of 25. The proceeds from the Flaughless 5K will benefit Retrieving Freedom, Inc., a nonprofit organization that trains service dogs for veterans.
