Placement | May 2019
Marine veteran James and his service dog Remi passed their public access test and became an official team in May of 2019. Remi assists James with psychiatric and physical mobility.
James' Story
"My work history is in the United States Marines, Park Ranger Enforcement Officer for Miami Dade County Parks and Recreation, Forest Ranger (Wildlife Firefighter) for the state of Florida, Special Response Officer for Turkey Point Nuclear Plant, and an Information and Reference Specialist for Miami Dade County Mayor.
This is just a few of my jobs before being forced into early retirement. Having my service dog has brought me hope, freedom, independence, happiness, and security back into my life. I thank you and everyone at Retrieving Freedom for never giving up on me and working hard and faithfully all the way to the end and beyond. I now feel I have a sense of purpose in life... THANK YOU!!!!!"

It has been a pleasure working with Remi through her journey at RFI in Iowa and I am so proud of how far she has come. I am truly happy for you and her, congratulations! I wish you two the best. You have a truly special service dog full of personality and spunk :) I am hoping to see you at RFI in the future so we could officially meet.
