Placement | January 2019

The trainers at Retrieving Freedom had to make the difficult decision to remove me from the service dog path. I was adopted by a wonderful new family and I am so excited to spend the rest of my days with my new best friends! Thank you to all who helped me get to this point. Not every dog is meant to be a service dog, but I'm thankful I found my forever home.

Christian's Journey

Stage 1 Introduction

Hello, my name's Christian.  I am proud to have been selected to enter into the Retrieving Freedom training program.  My parents are “Gracie” who is fostered by the Ingersoll family, and "Olaf" of RidgeView Labradors. During this stage of training I will be spending approximately 8 months with my new volunteer foster, Cyndi.

Throughout Stage 1, I will learn the basics obedience, public behavior, and a lot of socialization. I understand that it takes a very special dog to complete the program as there is a high standard to become an Service Dog. I am aware that I may be one of the dogs whose purpose is outside of service work so I will be updating my profile on a monthly basis for all that would like to follow my journey through the program.

This month I transitioned from my wonderful breeding foster home to my new puppy foster home. In the first photo I am sitting with Ella, my puppy raiser, and Cheryl, my breeding foster. In the second photo, I'm with my fosters, Cyndi and Ella, my breeding foster Cheryl, and holding me is Craig Christians, who I was named after.

I've been spending lots of time learning from Retrieving Freedom service dog in training Henley, who spends weekends in the same foster home as me. He was also raised here when he was a puppy, and I'm told I could learn a lot of positive behaviors from him.
