Sponsor Announcement

I am so excited to be sponsored by the Iowa Pet Breeders Association! They generously donated to sponsor the first leg of my journey through the training program, which provided them the opportunity to give me my beautiful name! Thank you, members of the Iowa Pet Breeders Association, for your support! I hope to make you all proud each and every day.

Glory III's Journey

Stage 1 Introduction

Hello! My name is Glory. I am proud to have been selected to enter into the Retrieving Freedom training program. I am from Kerrybrook Labradors in Ohio. During this stage of training I will be spending approximately 8 months with my new volunteer puppy raiser, Sara.

Throughout Stage 1, I will learn the basics obedience, public behavior, and a lot of socialization. I understand that it takes a very special dog to complete the program as there is a high standard to become a Service Dog. I am aware that I may be one of the dogs whose purpose is outside of service work so I will be updating my profile on a monthly basis for all that would like to follow my journey through the program.

May 2021 - 7 weeks old

Right at the end of May I transitioned from my wonderful breeder in Ohio to my new foster home in Iowa. Sara and I will be working together for the next several months on manners and basic obedience. First, she will guide me on how to properly walk on a leash, where to go potty (and where not to go!), and begin teaching me my name. I'm excited to see what we can accomplish together!

June 2021 - 2 months old

I am still working on the basics - learning my name, "sit," and potty training. I'm doing well at adjusting to a schedule and acclimating to my new home with other people and animals. I've shown a lot of improvement lately on not nibbling on Sara's hands, walking on a leash, "down," and "kennel." I am super shy around new people and take a little bit of time to warm up to strangers!

July 2021 - 3 months old

I am working on not barking at other people and dogs. I've made progress, but still show signs of discomfort. I'm beginning to walk on a leash better and potty training is going great!
