Annual Jon Tumilson Go Crush It 5K Challenge

Navy SEAL Jon "JT" Tumilson, along with 29 other heroes and one military working dog, paid the ultimate sacrifice on August 6, 2011 while conducting special operations combat in Afghanistan. Each summer Jon's family hosts a memorial 5K challenge in his honor. The 5K course is located in Jon's hometown of Rockford, Iowa at the Fossil & Prairie Park.

Although this year's Go Crush It 5K Challenge will be virtual, we hope you consider registering and completing a 5K in Jon's memory between July 1, 2020 and August 6, 2020.

A post from the Facebook page In memory of Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson (@NeverForget8611) provided the much-anticipated race information on Wednesday, July 1 - what would have been Jon's 44th birthday:

"Here is the info you've all been waiting for...the link to sign up for the Virtual Jon Tumilson Go Crush It 5K Challenge.

This years race shirt pays homage to Jon's early Navy career and his time spent on the USS Port Royal when he was stationed in Hawaii.

Since it is a virtual race, your registration will include the race shirt of your choice, and very excited this year to offer a variety of body styles for you to choose from. Note, we will not be doing any awards or race bibs this year since it is a virtual.

So here is how you get signed up...Visit this site and make your shirt selection no later than SUNDAY JULY 12. Then run or walk a 5K distance at a location of your choosing sometime between TODAY (Jon's Birthday) and AUGUST 6TH (Jon's Death).

Great news...Those of you that would like to run at the Fossil Park in Rockford, they will have the race route marked on SATURDAY AUGUST 1 if you'd like to do your run or walk on your own there for those of you that are so sad to be missing out on our challenging, well loved, 5K course!"

Below are photos from the past 3 years, which we are honored to have been the beneficiary of funds raised. Autism service dog Crush was named in memory of Jon, and he can be seen as the chocolate Labrador in the photos below.
