State Fair Speedway Donates $1,000 to Retrieving Freedom, Inc.

ree

The roar of engines and the spirit of community came together once again as the historic State Fair Speedway celebrated its 9th consecutive year of racing for a cause. With more than 3,500 fans filling the stands, organizers Larry McCown and Randy Combs were proud to dedicate the 2025 race to the memory of Barbara Hayden, honoring her years of support for the Missouri State Fair and her unwavering dedication to preserving the legacy of Sedalia dirt track racing.

Since its revival, the annual event has stayed true to one mission — giving back to the Sedalia community. Over the past nine years, race proceeds have generated over $100,000 for local charities and organizations, including SC Robotics, SC JROTC, Dialysis, Child Safe, Elks Christmas Fund, State Fair Community College, Bothwell Auxiliary, Open Door, Youth Big Deer Hunt Event, DARE Car Show Benefit, and the Dream Factory.

This year, the Speedway was proud to present a $1,000 donation to Retrieving Freedom, Inc., a nonprofit organization that trains and places Service Dogs for Veterans with disabilities and children with autism—at no cost to the clients. “We’re thrilled to support their mission to change lives right here in our community,” said McCown.

None of this would be possible without the generous backing of local sponsors. W-K Family of Dealerships, Central Bank, CED, Starline Brass, Yeager’s, Auto Glass Express, Bothwell Peak & Spine, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and many more continue to make the event—and its charitable impact—possible. “The dedication of our sponsors and fans keeps Sedalia’s racing tradition alive and meaningful,” McCown added. A special thank you to RFI volunteers Matt & Joni Sartain, Tim Postuma, Steve & Misty Ratliff, and Ryan Potts for your help during this year's event.
