Lexi and Holland: A Partnership That Began with Courage

We are excited to share the story of Lexi and Holland, a placement that has already shown just how life-changing a Service Dog can be.

At Retrieving Freedom, every Service Dog spends a minimum of two years in training, preparing for the moment they meet their partner. For Holland, that moment came with an unexpected challenge. Just days after arriving home, Lexi needed bilateral knee surgery. Holland stepped into her role without missing a beat.

From the very beginning, Holland has been by Lexi's side every step of the way. She helped calm Lexi's nerves before surgery, offering a steady, reassuring presence during a scary and uncertain time. Through recovery, Holland has provided constant comfort and companionship, and she continues to support Lexi through her therapy sessions as she heals.

For children with autism, a Service Dog offers so much more than task work. Holland gives Lexi a calming anchor during stressful moments, a source of comfort when things feel overwhelming, and a loyal friend who never leaves her side. In just a short time together, Holland has already shown just how extraordinary Service Dogs can be.
